Antione Frazier was the first player to commit to head coach David Beaty and the Kansas Jayhawks for the class of 2016. The big, 6-foot-5, 250-pound offensive tackle was looking forward to making it official when he finally put his name on the dotted line on National Signing Day.

“I signed at nine o’clock,” Frazier said, recounting what happened on February third. “Just me, some close friends, and a couple teammates. Around ten was when I planned to send it in.”

The Huffman (TX) Hargrave prospect made a verbal commitment to the Jayhawks in February of 2015. After waiting nearly a full year before signing a Letter of Intent, Frazier said the opportunity to learn from Beaty’s staff is what he’s looking forward to most.

“After the visit I took, I’m really just ready to be coached by Coach (Zach) Yenser,” he said of the Jayhawks offensive line coach. “Be around Coach Beaty, and Coach (Gary) Hyman. I’m really just ready to win and turn it around.”

“The feeling to be a Jayhawk, it’s really cool to me,” Frazier continued. “I’m really proud, and humbled that they gave me this opportunity. They came out of nowhere and showed me that they cared about me. The love that people have shown me, the fans since I committed, it’s great.”

KU fans have made quite an impression on Frazier. The Texas product has developed an appreciation for Jayhawk Nation, and he’s excited to be a part of it.

“I didn’t really know that there were this many Jayhawk fans around the country. Even where I stay, there’s an excess amount of them. There are people that lived in Kansas, or just love the Jayhawks. A Jayhawk fan, it’s all about red and blue. They have it all over their houses. You can’t go anywhere in Kansas without seeing them. It’s crazy how much they love it.”
