Keegan Brewer and Dagan Haehn have taken a path that started in Kansas then Texas and now a stop back in Kansas.

Haehn and Brewer were teammates and close friends at Lake Dallas High School where they enjoyed successful careers. Ending up at Lake Dallas and then the University of Kansas was an interesting road for both of them.

Haehn, the quarterback, was born in Lawrence. His parents went to school at KU. Brewer, Haehn’s favorite target at receiver, was born in Wichita.

“It is kind of crazy if you think about it,” Haehn said. “What are the chances that our parents are both from Kansas, we end up at the same high school in Lake Dallas and then the same college.”

It actually started back when they first played together in the second grade.

“We have known each other since we were seven years old and played on the same pee wee football team,” Haehn said. “We’ve known each other since we first put the pads on. When we were younger we would sometimes talk about how cool it would be to keep playing on the same team we got older.”

Haehn was a first team all-district quarterback and an all-state academic honorable mention selection. Brewer was a second team all-state pick and first team all-district. He was also voted the district MVP this season. Like Haehn, he also made the academic team.

“College is definitely something new but I feel like I am ready because my sister and brother, and both of my parents went to college and they have prepared me for what is to come.,” Brewer said. “They’ve showed me the way to succeed is not only in football but also academically.”

Brewer and Haehn arrived on campus together and have already started classes and going through workouts. They are back in Kansas where their lives started.

“It is amazing knowing me and Dagan will be together in college and a relief with finding new friends,” Brewer said. “I will at least have someone that I know before I start which is cool. Playing with him has been an honor and I’m glad we get to continue.”

Enrolling early will give both players a chance to learn the offense and get used to the academics along with college life. Brewer wants to show he is ready to play at the Big 12 level.

“I look forward to the off-season workouts and learning the playbook,” Brewer said. “I want to learn quickly to show that I’m someone they did not waste their time on. I’m ready for this upcoming season and will make a difference.”
