The Kansas coaching staff is set to begin official visits again this weekend. One recruit who will be on campus has been a long-time target on the recruiting board. Although Julian Chandler gave a commitment to Louisiana Tech in the summer he will be in Lawrence to get a closer look at the Kansas program.

Kansas defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux recruits Chandler’s area and has shown interest over the last year.

“He has been recruiting me since last spring,” Chandler said. “We have been building a relationship since then. They offered me not too long ago and that’s when I started to look at them harder.”

Chandler, a two-time, all district selection at Hightower High also got inside information about the Jayhawks from freshman wide receiver Steven Sims. The two are familiar because they are from the same area and played against each other.

“I talked to Steven Sims who is a true freshmen and he said it is a nice place.,” Chandler said. “He said I will love it when I go there.”

Kyle Mayberry one of the Jayhawks cornerback commitments has also reached out to Chandler.

“I talked to coach Beaty and he said Kansas will be doing some good things,” Chandler said. “I talked to one of the recruits Kyle Mayberry and he was telling me we need some good players to come in and get it going next year.”

Thibodeaux recently extended an offer after the Kansas coaches took a closer look at Chandler’s film.

“He (Thibodeaux) told me they liked my size and range,” Chandler said. “They feel like I have good feet and they can get me to the next level.”
