Ever since Tyriek Starks committed to Kansas his recruiting picked up quite a bit. While he was on his visit to Kansas he got a new offer from Tulane, the hometown school for the New Orleans native.

On Monday coaches from Arizona and Arizona State made a trip to Warren Easton High to evaluate the quarterback.

“The Arizona coaches said the head coach is watching my film and has my number,” Starks said late on Friday.

On Wednesday Starks said he got an offer from Indiana. When all of the new attention came signing day was just a week away. All along the plan for the Kansas staff was to not use a scholarship on a quarterback for the 2016 class.

But about two weeks ago Kansas head coach David Beaty was making stops in Louisiana and dropped in to see Tony Hull at Warren Easton High. That’s when he discovered Starks. Beaty spent a lot of time doing his homework on Starks from watching film, looking at his academics, and learning about his character. Beaty didn’t wait. He offered that day and Starks took an official visit two days later to Lawrence.

“Coach Beaty is a friend of mine,” Hull said. “He recruited a bunch of kids from here when he was at Texas A&M. We have a good friendship. I think Beaty is one the best recruiters in the country. We average around 20 college coaches a year that recruit our school and Beaty is one of the best recruiters to come through these doors.”

On Thursday Starks took an unofficial visit to Tulane. They have a new coach in Willie Fritz, who attended Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Kansas. Fritz recruited Starks heavily when he was at Georgia Southern.

“They are trying to rebuild their program just like Kansas is,” Starks said.

Starks was supposed to take an official visit to Georgia Southern this weekend but informed Jayhawk Slant he has canceled he trip.

“At this time I am committed to Kansas,” Starks said. “I talk to their coaches every day. They said they are sending the papers down for me to sign.”

Starks added his plans right now are to sign on Wednesday.
